Is Your APD Training Link Still the Right One? Where to Actually Check

A training link can stop being correct without ever looking broken — the page still loads, the course still opens, and nothing tells you the course number moved. Here is the one APD page that carries the current course ID numbers, and three widely-shared pages that have not been updated in years.

Where do I check whether my APD training links are current?

Start at APD’s Provider Training page — apd.myflorida.com/providersupports/training.htm — which is the page APD’s own navigation links to. It tells you to find each course by searching TRAIN Florida for keywords such as “Zero Tolerance”, and it no longer publishes course ID numbers. Three pages commonly shared for this purpose are years old: the older course-information page still prints course ID numbers but carries a 2021 copyright and is not linked from APD’s navigation, the Training Alerts page says “Last Update: 7/1/2021”, and the TRAIN Florida Announcement Log PDF was last modified in February 2020. Update, 5 September 2026. When this was written on 1 September we named the APD Training Portal course-information page as the place to confirm a course ID number. Our own daily audit then caught us doing the thing this article is about. That page sits on the section of APD’s site that has been moved away from — it carries a 2021 copyright, uses APD’s old navigation, and is not linked from APD’s current menus, the same pattern as the Training Alerts page criticised below. APD’s current Provider Training page is at /providersupports/training.htm, and it points you into TRAIN Florida by keyword instead of publishing numbers. We have corrected this article and moved our own links. The course ID numbers listed further down are what that older page showed on 1 September; treat them as something to confirm inside TRAIN Florida, not as a current APD record.

Here is a failure that does not look like a failure. You keep a list of where staff go to complete each required training — in a binder, a spreadsheet, or a shared document that gets passed to whoever is doing the onboarding this month. Once in a while somebody clicks the links to make sure they still work. They do. Everything opens.

And the list can still be wrong, because a course number can change while the page it sits on carries on loading perfectly. Clicking a link tests whether the internet is working. It does not test whether you are being sent to the course you think you are.

The pages that are easy to trust and are not current

When somebody asks where to check for training changes, three APD pages come up. We fetched all three on 1 September 2026. This is what they returned.

APD Training Alerts — loads normally and carries the line "Last Update: 7/1/2021" at the bottom. Its content still refers to APD required courses for FY20-21 and FY21-22 and announces new courses as "scheduled to be released in the Fall 2021."
The APD TRAIN Florida Announcement Log (PDF) — still downloads, and the file itself was last modified on 4 February 2020. There is an archive version alongside it in the same state.
Two of the training sub-pages — the service-specific training and in-service training pages — were returning a server error on the day we checked, while the rest of the section loaded normally.

None of this is a criticism of APD, and none of it means a rule changed. State sites get reorganised, pages get superseded, and old ones are commonly left in place rather than taken down. The practical point for a provider is narrower and more useful: a page loading is not evidence that it is current, and two of the pages most likely to be shared for this exact purpose are several years old.

The page that prints course numbers — and why it needs confirming

The APD Training Portal’s course-information page is public, is server-rendered plain HTML, and — unusually for this kind of page — prints the course ID numbers directly in the text. It is also, as the update above says, on the part of APD’s site that has been superseded. On 1 September 2026 it listed, among others:

Which of those apply to a given staff member depends on their role and on the services your business provides, so this was never a list of what you owe. And after 5 September 2026 it is not a record of what is current either — search the course name inside TRAIN Florida and read the number there. The wider lesson stands, and it caught us: the page was public, plain, detailed and loading perfectly, and none of that is evidence of currency.

A five-minute check you can do this week

Open your own list of training links — wherever it actually lives.
Open the APD course-information page next to it.
For each required course you track, compare the course ID number, not the course name. Names get reworded far more often than numbers, and a renamed course with the same number is the same course.
Where your list points at a general portal or a regional office page rather than a numbered course, that is usually correct — some things, like a medication or insulin validation, are done in person through an approved trainer and have no course link to check.
Write the date you checked next to the list. A list with no date on it cannot be trusted by the next person who picks it up.

The part that cannot be checked from outside

TRAIN Florida posts its own announcements on the home page after you sign in. That content sits behind the login, so it cannot be read by anyone who is not signed in to their own account — including any automatic checker. If you want to see TRAIN's announcements, you have to log in and look.

That is worth knowing for a practical reason. Since APD’s current page stopped publishing course numbers, there is no public, checkable record of them at all — the catalogue and the announcements both sit behind the TRAIN Florida login. If your process depends on somebody noticing a course change, that process depends on somebody logging in.

Why this is the shape of problem worth worrying about

Compliance mistakes in this field are rarely about not knowing a rule. They are about something moving quietly while everything continues to look normal — a course renumbered, a page superseded, an effective date changed on a rule whose number never changes. Nothing breaks. No message arrives. The first symptom is somebody asking for a certificate that turns out to be for the wrong course.

The defence is not vigilance, because vigilance does not scale past the first busy month. It is having the check happen on a schedule, and having the date of the last check written down where the next person can see it.
