They start Monday. What do you actually need?

Florida APD requirements land on three different clocks, and most summaries flatten them into “before hire.” That gets people twice — panicking over things they have 90 days for, and missing the ones that genuinely come first. Put in a start date and get real dates.

Their first day working with residents — not the offer date.

Pick a start date and the deadlines appear here — with the actual calendar dates, not “within 90 days.”

Common questions

Does a new hire need CPR before their first day?
No. Rule 65G-2.008(7)(d), F.A.C. gives a direct service provider 90 days from providing direct services to complete basic first aid and hold a current CPR certification. The same rule requires the training be given in a classroom setting by a certified trainer, so a fully online card does not meet it.
What has to be finished before the first shift?
Background screening must be cleared, and Zero Tolerance training must be completed prior to providing direct services under Rule 65G-2.008(7)(c), F.A.C. The local criminal records check and the Attestation of Good Moral Character belong in the file at hire as well.
How long does a new hire have for Direct Care Core Competencies?
90 days. Rule 65G-2.008(7)(a), F.A.C. requires it within 90 days of first providing services or supports to residents.
When is HIPAA training due for a new APD provider staff member?
Within 30 days of providing services, and annually after that, per the iBudget Handbook (May 2023) Appendix B, Table 1.

This is the common set for a licensed APD group home.

Your service type, your staff’s roles, and your APD regional office can add to it — supported living, personal supports and behavior-focused homes each carry more.
