APD Direct Care Core Competencies Training Requirement

Applies to
All direct-care staff
How often
One-time

Direct Care Core Competencies is APD's foundational pre-service training for direct-care staff. It is completed once and does not expire.

Direct Care Core Competencies is part of APD's Required Basic Training for people who provide direct care. It is a one-time requirement — once completed it does not renew — but it is genuinely pre-service, meaning it belongs at the very start of onboarding.

Because it never expires, the risk isn't a lapse — it's a new hire who goes on the schedule before the item is actually logged. The fix is to verify it during onboarding, not after.

One-time requirements fail homes not by expiring but by never being recorded for a new hire. Log it during onboarding, before the first shift.
