Prescribed Enteral Formula: A Separate APD Credential (Rule 65G-7.004)

Prescribed enteral formula is its own track under Rule 65G-7.004 — a separate course, a separate hands-on validation, and a separate annual update. Being current on Basic Medication Administration does not cover it.

A MAP who is current on Basic Medication Administration is not thereby cleared to administer prescribed enteral formula. 65G-7.004(3) requires the separate Prescribed Enteral Formula Administration course, with an exam needing 85% on course content and 100% on the simulated return demonstration.

The validation is separate too, under 65G-7.004(5)(c), with its own proficiency list at (6)(b) — following a physician's order, administering by the enteral route, record-keeping, storage and handling, and the correct use of any adaptive equipment.

The annual update course sits at 65G-7.004(7)(a)2. and is required before revalidating. It is in addition to the Basic Medication Administration annual update, not instead of it. Completing it earns APD Form 65G-7.004 B.

A temporary validation does not cover prescribed enteral formulas either — 65G-7.004(8)(c) requires the specific training and validation before administering it at all.

The word 'separate' is doing a lot of work in this rule, and it is where providers get caught: separate course, separate exam, separate validation, separate annual update. Four separate things, each with its own date, sitting on top of the basic medication credential.
